August Publications: "Homer" Book Design

Inspirational true stories are hallmarks of confidence-building literature for young adults. When true events can inspire an entire community, the story is even more powerful. The story of Homer—the small town with an underdog high school baseball team—was written as the Friday Night Lights of baseball by journalist Jeff Karzen, who chronicled the team's rise to amazing heights. With a team-oriented story and the player-oriented telling of it, the goal was for the book to be something both kids and coaches could look to for inspiration. The design celebrated the team's success and the resulting community bond while suggesting the author's newspaper background and his part in telling Homer's story.
