Shevchenko in Washington (film)
Taras Shevchenko, arguably Ukraine's most celebrated poet, has been a popular subject of sculptors all over the world for the symbol of freedom and patriotism his name and works represent. Shevchenko in Washington documented the unveling of one of the more popular Shevchenko statues in the 1960s by then-President Dwight D. Eisenhower in Washington, D.C., with Ukrainians—including actor Jack Palance—participating in the festivities. For the 40th anniversary of the statue's unveiling, the Ukrainian-language version of the film was re-released as a limited edition. The design melded images and colors reminiscent of both Ukrainian and American cultures.
