When Minneapolis Community and Technical College's newspaper was ready for a redesign, the goal was to make the publication more engaging so as to help connect its diverse student body. The editorial staff wanted the newspaper to better reflect the various ages, skills, interests and backgrounds of its readers, which meant a departure from the "inner city" approach in exchange for a cleaner urban design. The entire publication got an overhaul—logo, masthead, even the larger-format finished size—in an attempt to emulate professional local publications. Students were encouraged to submit cover art each month, further engaging a sometimes disconnected student body. Readership doubled.
